Hawaii in Connecticut | Wedding Planning Inspiration | Styled Photoshoot
This creative styled photo-shoot brought a taste of the island to Connecticut and the result was stunning!
Ethical Wedding Planning Tip (read this, then scroll down to see the unconventional fur friends that starred in this photoshoot):
Incorporate animals in your wedding by putting photos of adoptable pets from a local shelter on your reception tables.
If your own pet is part of the ceremony, hire an ethically minded expert like FairyTail Pet Care to help keep things running smoothly on the big day.
From the photographer:
Lots of love, time and thought went into this styled shoot! The inspiration for this shoot came from my moms trip to Hawaii this last spring. Every day, she’d send me tons of photos, and I was absolutely in love with the colours, lush greenery and florals, and just the whole Hawaiian vibe in general (really, who wouldn’t be though, right!?). It would be an absolute dream to photograph in Hawaii, but unfortunately that’s not always a reality, as I’m sure it’s not the reality of many brides wishing to get married in a beautiful place such as Hawaii. So, I started to think about how I could bring a taste of Hawaii to Connecticut! Ironically, Megan & Mike (Megan is a friend and fellow creative of Coppola Creative) just got back from their honeymoon in Hawaii, so they were totally on board to be the bride and groom, and were even able to help out with some details of the session. So many people picture Hawaii as just ocean and dramatic cliffs, but there’s more to Hawaii – there are also the rolling hills and farmland, so I thought it would be appropriate and unique to include some adorable farm animals and pups (literally puppies!). Plus, I’m a HUGE animal lover, so I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. One of the things I love most about this styled shoot, is that it shows how brides and grooms can bring the things they love about their favourite destinations and combine it with where they live. Connecticut has such a gorgeous countryside, so this was the perfect combination! All of the vendors for this shoot were so helpful and amazing to work with, and in particular, Carrie Wilcox and her daughter, Maggie, went above and beyond helping me out with the styling and planning on the day of (along with Megan & Mike Coppola when they weren’t getting dressed, make up and hair, etc., done!). Every little touch, from the positioning of the florals on the table, to decorating the golf cart for Mike & Megan to drive off in, to the cute Lilly Pulitzer dress Megan wore as they left the reception, was perfectly thought out and planned by Carrie Wilcox. And, although this was a styled shoot, there were lots of sentimental elements as well – such as the Marquise cut engagement ring Mike gave to Megan (its as passed down through their family!), to the seashell lei Megan & Mike wore on their own honeymoon, which we incorporated into detail shots. When working with bridal dress designer, Marina Semone, to choose Megan’s wedding dress, we made sure it would provide a fun vibe, while still providing lots of flow and elegance. We wanted something that wouldn’t be over the top, as we wanted the florals to pop, and we don’t typically picture over the top wedding dresses for Hawaiian weddings, or countryside weddings either! We also wanted it to match the laid back outfit Mike was wearing. Melissa Lynn Paterson, created the perfect soft and natural look for Megan for both her hair and make up, which matched perfectly with her floral crown. And, Opaline Lettering provided a pop of fun and matching colour with the stationary, which went well for detail shots too. Rentals were provided by Gather & Lounge, which also provided the adorable leaf pillows and the boho screen backdrop for Mike & Megan’s vow exchange. Borrowed Vintage Style provided adorable vintage mix-matched dishes and glasses as well. One of the final touches we wanted to include were food details. Sometimes, styled shoots are missing food, so we wanted to make sure to include this. For this portion, On The Marc Events provided a colourful arrangement of finger foods, which we thought went well with the colors and vibe of the styled shoot. And, lastly, Annie, the farmer at Mill Stone Farm, was great to work with as she helped us arrange to photograph Pearl the Lamb, and also offered for us to use her adorable puppies for the shoot! I’d suggest for any bride
and groom who are animal lovers, to try to combine animals into their wedding somehow. Animals always provide huge smiles and so much love, and are the perfect way to add a special touch to a wedding day!
