The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s baby has been busy growing and making a difference even before his or her birth! Started by a fan and funneled into favorite organizations by the couple, themselves, the Global Sussex Baby Shower is an initiative to give back in honor of the royal baby. It started on social media with a hashtag and an encouragement and grew into a movement.
On their new Instagram page, this is written about the impact of this unconventional baby shower:
“…And on behalf of The Duke and Duchess (and Baby Sussex), we thank you so much.
@thelunchboxfund will now be able to provide a minimum of 100,000 additional hot nutritionally fortified meals to children in dire need across South Africa.
@thelittlevillagehq received donations from all over the world (from UAE to Hong Kong and the US), they’ve increased their monthly donors, had a surge in volunteer applications, and re-energized their hard working team of 200+ staff and volunteers.
@wellchild can now provide 300+ additional hours of specialist care by a Well Child Nurse for a child with serious health needs, allowing families to stay together at home vs. in a hospital.
@Baby2Baby have received over 5,000 products to disperse to children in need, including cribs, books, backpacks, diapers and have received monetary donations from around the globe – from Guadalajara to Italy….” – @sussexroyal, Instagram
Meghan and Harry made history in a culture blending royal wedding last year that set an example in giving back. The philanthropy and conscious decisions that were a part of their big day were so encouraging. Now, they are keeping the tradition going as parents celebrating their new baby who is making a difference before he or she is even born!
You can too! No fancy venue or hors d’ouvre needed. Here are a few ideas:
Party like a royal by asking your friends and family to donate to a charity in honor of your baby! You can do this on your invitation, with a donation box at your shower, as a replacement for a shower, on social media, on your baby registry (So Kind registry allows you to register for charitable donations).
Your baby can help other babies. Let their first gift be a gift for someone else by sponsoring a child or donating to a charity that helps children.
Make your own hashtag encouraging others to give.
Baby Sussex is in the final few weeks of development in the womb but will continue to develop as he or she grows older. Who will he or she take after? Whose smile will hers or his resemble most – or eyes or mannerisms? Amazingly, many of those things were determined long ago!
At the very moment of conception, babies have their own human DNA. Their DNA is completely unique – different from any other human that has ever existed, even their mother. This DNA includes complete design, from the baby’s hair and eye color and personality traits to attributes in adulthood. As soon as they are conceived babies are also biologically alive. Their bodies fulfill the four qualifications for biological life – metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and reproduction.
These are just a few of the many amazing things about the miracle of babies! We extend our congratulations to the Duke and Duchess and every mama and daddy out there, whether your baby is hours old or years old, in the womb or in college!
